Catalog Incredulity

Last evening before bed, I was flipping quickly through a J.Crew catalog before sending it to that big recycling bin in the sky.  Imagine my surprise when I came across this page:

For me, it is unusual to come across an exact spelling of my name.  I’ve only ever met one other person named “Alecia” and it’s more common for me to be addressed as “Alicia” or “Alisha” or “Elisha” or “Allison”.  Once, while walking to rehearsal and chatting with a friend, she and I could not ignore the person behind us yelling, “Ashley!  Ashley!  Ashley!!”  Eventually we turned around and a fellow walked up to me saying, “Boy!  I thought you were never gonna stop. Why didn’t you turn around?”  ”Well,” I told him, “That’s not my name.”  He looked mystified.

Since I do model shoes from time to time, do you suppose J.Crew might be seeking people willing to showcase namesake apparel?  I’m not Italian, but I am relaxed and like to think I have a little attitude.  (Only a positive one, mind you.)

  • I love those shoes, but I can’t imagine that they would look good on me. You could totally pull them off though! Hooray for namesake shoes!!

I totally hear you on the wrong name thing. My entire life I have been called: Melody, Meloney, Melaney, Melissa, Melinda, and Michelle(?!?). Doesn’t anyone read Gone with the Wind any more?? I have to say, thank goodness for the Spice Girls; they had TWO Melanies, which has helped a bit in my name battle.
