Win Some, Lose Some More

I received a phone call last week.

“Hey!  How are you?  Are you available to work on [insert name of major network TV show here]?”, the voice inquired.

My heart leapt.  ”Yes”, I responded happily.  ”I can be available!”

“Oh, that’s great.  We’ll need to you do stand-in and it’s perfect because you look just like her.  We’re only waiting on her height.”

“Oh…alright”, I answered as normally as possible, my heart sinking.  I knew exactly what was going on.

“We’ll call you later with the details.”  Click.

Flashback to the previous week…

I’m nervous.  I’ve slept as much as possible.  I’m memorized, have an outfit packed neatly in an unassuming bag, a headshot in hand and I’m prepared to ride a bus.  I’m on my way to audition for a guest-star role on [insert name of major network TV show here].  My mental checklist has been reviewed to the point of tatters and I’m certain I’ve got everything I need.

March’s lion-like entry has delayed the commercial shoot. Ever-intrepid in the face of inclement weather, I’m awaiting more information.

Do we have a winner?

Yesterday I auditioned for yet another lottery commercial.  Those of you who know me know I’ve already racked up spots for the Maine and Vermont lotteries.  (I once auditioned for the Connecticut lottery but didn’t get the spot).  This particular audition was for the Massachusetts lottery.  I think I’ve made it a goal to do a TV spot for every lottery in New England and I’d love to be able to add the Massachusetts feather to my lotto cap.

This particular spot was another one of those unusual ones: it had no dialogue, meaning the communication had to be all visual, physical action.  I was requested to arrive dressed in a “business casual” style.  So, I wore what I like to think of as business casual: a relaxed wool pant and collared blouse.  I looked as though I walked out of The Office.  Well, once I skimmed the description of the spot I was a bit concerned about my wardrobe choices: I … Read more »
